The feeding of livestock in India is mainly based on agricultural and industrial by-products. Bagasse is a residue left after the extraction of juice from the sugarcane and is available to the tune of 10 million tonnes per annum in our country. Bagasse has been used as an animal feed by various workers, as such, after its physical or chemical treatment (Sodium hydroxide). Ammonia, an alkali has also been used by few workers to improve its nutritive value. Here, an attempt was made to study rumen metabolites in cross-bred cattle fed bagasse treated with ammonia gas.- Effect of Concentration and Period of Ammonia Treatment on the Chemical Composition and Nutritive Values of Sugar-Cane Bagasse
